In a recent development, game industry insider Jeff Grubb claimed that EA's Motive Studio had been working on a Dead Space 2 remake before it was halted due to underwhelming sales of last year's Dead Space remake. However, EA has refuted these claims, stating that there is no truth to the story.

During an episode of Giant Bomb's Game Mess Mornings show, Grubb revealed that Motive Studio had been actively involved in conceptualizing and beginning pre-production on the Dead Space 2 remake. He further shared that the project had been put on hold due to the disappointing sales figures of the previous remake.

The news followed an announcement by Motive's general manager, Patrick Klaus, about the studio forming a new team to support EA's Battlefield franchise and continuing work on their Iron Man game with Marvel. Hours after Grubb's claims, EA released a statement to IGN denying the existence of a Dead Space 2 remake.

Grubb responded to EA's statement on X (formerly Twitter), giving readers "permission to believe EA if you want," but highlighting that while EA denied the story, they did not specify which part they were disputing. He maintained that Dead Space 2 was undoubtedly in development and had even been given a code name before being scrapped.

IGN's news director, Kat Bailey, weighed in on the controversy, stating that based on her own sources, a Dead Space 2 remake had never been considered. She also pointed out that EA's statement was definitive.

As it stands, there is no definitive confirmation on whether Motive Studio was working on a Dead Space 2 remake or not. The conflicting reports leave the true story behind this rumored project unclear. Fans hoping for a remake of Dead Space 2 will have to accept that it may not be happening for now.

Meanwhile, in an interview conducted shortly after the release of the Dead Space remake, creative director Roman Campos-Oriola expressed that the possibility of a Dead Space 2 remake depended on various factors, including the game's performance and the desires of the company, the studio, and the development team.

It is worth noting that support for Game Informer's coverage of games is currently being requested. Although the truth surrounding the Dead Space 2 remake remains uncertain, EA's denial contradicts Grubb's claim. As fans eagerly await further announcements, Motive Studio will now shift its focus to EA's Battlefield franchise and the Iron Man game currently in development with Marvel.
