### Dust Storm in Central California Causes Major Highway Pileup
A powerful dust storm swept through central California on Monday, drastically reducing visibility and causing a significant traffic incident. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Hanford, a dust storm warning for Fresno County was issued around 2 p.m. PT, cautioning residents of near-zero visibility conditions.
Local news outlet ABC 30 reported that the storm caused a 20-car pileup, resulting in minor injuries among several drivers. As a consequence, authorities closed all lanes on the westbound side of Highway 152 due to the extensive crash.
Fox 26, another local station, noted that the NWS sent out an emergency alert to mobile phones about the dust storm at approximately 2:12 p.m. PT. Footage captured during the event shows strong winds whipping up dirt and debris, enveloping cars and buildings in a thick cloud of dust.
Dust storms are frequent in desert regions, where high winds can easily lift loose debris into the air. These storms can emerge suddenly, affecting areas from California to Arizona. The National Weather Service advises on safety measures during such occurrences to help residents remain secure.
