Paris (AP) - Novak Djokovic triumphed over Rafael Nadal in a gripping showdown at the Paris Olympics, securing a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the second round. The match marked the 60th - and likely final - head-to-head matchup between the two tennis legends.

Djokovic surged ahead by claiming 10 of the initial 11 games, leaving Nadal visibly struggling and displaying signs of his 38 years on the court. Nadal, a 14-time French Open champion, showed glimpses of his former prowess but ultimately fell short in front of a packed Court Philippe Chatrier crowd.

Despite Nadal's spirited comeback attempt, where he won four consecutive games in the second set, Djokovic maintained his composure and ultimately broke back to secure the win. The Serbian player, who recently underwent knee surgery, showcased his exceptional skill and determination throughout the match.

The clash between Djokovic and Nadal, who hold 24 and 22 Grand Slam titles respectively, has been a highlight of men's tennis for years. Although accustomed to facing each other in major finals, their encounter at the Paris Olympics occurred earlier than usual due to Nadal's lower ranking caused by a lack of recent matches.

Nadal's physical struggles during the match were evident, with his right thigh taped up as he competes in both singles and doubles at the Paris Olympics alongside Carlos Alcaraz. Despite the challenges, Djokovic's impressive performance ensured his victory in what may be one of the final chapters of the storied rivalry between these two tennis giants.
