Disney has thrilled fans with the announcement of Toy Story 5, which is set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026. The studio is hoping that the highly anticipated sequel will bring the beloved franchise back to its former glory after the underwhelming performance of the spinoff film Lightyear in 2022.

CEO Bob Iger first revealed plans for Toy Story 5 in February 2023, as part of Disney's efforts to revive several of its successful properties. Since its debut in 1995, the Toy Story franchise has spanned four mainline films, with the last installment surpassing $1 billion at the box office in 2019. Fans have become attached to the voices of Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, who will be reprising their roles in the upcoming film.

Toy Story 5's release date was just one of several changes made to Disney's schedule. The live-action remake of Moana, starring Dwayne Johnson, has been pushed back by a year and is now set to release on July 10, 2026. This move allows the remake to have sufficient breathing room from the release of the animated Moana 2, which is scheduled for November of this year.

Furthermore, Disney confirmed that the highly anticipated Star Wars feature film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, will hit theaters on May 22, 2026. Speculations about the release date had been circulating for some time, and now fans finally have a confirmed date. Directed by Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, this film will continue the story of the popular Disney+ show and stars Pedro Pascal.

The release of The Mandalorian & Grogu is a significant moment for Lucasfilm, as it marks the return of Star Wars to the big screen for the first time since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. Although the franchise has found success on Disney+, attempts to relaunch it on the silver screen have faced challenges in the past.

"We are leaning into our unrivaled brands," stated Iger back in 2023, highlighting the company's commitment to its beloved franchises. Aside from Toy Story 5, Disney is also working on sequels for Zootopia and Frozen, fueling excitement among fans who can't wait to revisit these enchanting worlds.

As the release dates for these highly anticipated films draw near, fans eagerly anticipate the next chapters in their favorite Disney stories. With Toy Story 5, the Moana remake, and The Mandalorian & Grogu all hitting theaters in the coming years, Disney's schedule is set to be filled with magic, adventure, and beloved characters.
