The Detroit Lions are gearing up to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a highly-anticipated Week 2 matchup at Ford Field. However, as they held their first official practice of the week on Wednesday, a number of key starters surfaced on the initial injury report.

On the injured reserve and non-football injury list, several players will be absent from the Lions' lineup. Guard Christian Mahogany, who is dealing with illness and mono, is placed on the NFI list but becomes eligible to return by Week 5. Defensive tackle Brodric Martin (knee), defensive lineman John Cominsky (MCL), and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (pec) are also on the injured reserve list, with potential returns in Week 5.

Meanwhile, there were a few new additions to the injury report for the Lions. Left tackle Penei Sewell suffered an ankle injury during Week 1 but played through the pain. He sat out of Wednesday's practice as a precaution, emphasizing that he feels good and it was just a proactive measure. The extent of his injury will be determined in the coming days.

Similarly, edge rusher Marcus Davenport seemed to suffer a minor groin injury during the previous game, but he managed to play through it. The Lions will monitor his status later in the week to assess his availability for the upcoming matchup.

Safety Kerby Joseph, who was initially seen during warmups, reportedly exited practice early due to a hamstring injury. Details about the timing and severity of his injury remain unclear at this time.

Defensive back Ifeatu Melifonwu has been dealing with a slow-healing injury, causing him to miss practices intermittently. The Lions coaching staff has not disclosed a specific return timeline for Melifonwu.

Wide receiver Jameson Williams sprained his ankle during the game but was able to return and make a significant impact, including a 52-yard touchdown.

On the positive side, defensive tackle DJ Reader has been upgraded to a full practice and is expected to make his Lions debut this week. He has been steadily progressing since coming off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list a few weeks ago.

Cornerback Carlton Davis suffered a chest injury but should be able to play against his former team this week.

Safety Loren Strickland, who missed all practices and the game last week, has returned to practice and could potentially make his NFL debut on Sunday.

The Lions will closely monitor the status of their injured players as they prepare to take on the Buccaneers. With key contributors potentially missing from the lineup, Detroit will need to rely on their depth and resilience to secure a victory in what promises to be an exciting showdown at Ford Field.
