In an incident that has sparked outrage among travelers and social media users alike, Delta Airlines is facing criticism after baggage handlers were caught on video nonchalantly tossing the golf club bags of East Tennessee State University's Men's Golf Team onto the concrete ground of the airport tarmac. The team was en route to the NCAA championships in Carlsbad, California when the incident occurred.

The video, shared by the team's head coach, Jake Amos, showcases the handlers throwing the golf club bags onto the tarmac, where they rolled around before being loaded onto a cart. The clip was filmed as the team was flying into San Diego, according to Kevin Brown, the East Tennessee State University's Assistant AD for Communications.

Upon seeing the footage, users on social media platforms expressed their dismay over Delta's mishandling of the delicate cargo. One user commented, "Those guys are called 'baggage smashers' for a reason," while another suggested an alternative method of handling the bags. "Why not back the cart up 20 feet and set them on it? Then they don't have to lift and move twice?"

Delta Airlines swiftly issued an apology to the ETSU Golf team, acknowledging their mishandling of the equipment and expressing their desire to rectify the situation. In a statement, the airline said, "We apologize to the ETSU Golf team and ask for a mulligan on how their equipment was handled. We're in direct contact with the Bucs to ensure they have what they need to successfully compete in the NCAAs."

Underneath the video on social media, Delta further responded, expressing their remorse for the golfer's experience. "We're so sorry this is how your golf clubs were handled. It's not who we are. And we're working to make it right so you'll have everything you need to compete at the tournament this weekend."

The video has quickly gone viral, accumulating over 8.8 million views and more than 5,999 retweets. Amidst the conversation, some users shared their personal experiences with Delta, criticizing the airline for damaging their own golf equipment. One user shared, "It's who you are. You broke my driver shaft in half, and when I submitted my complaint, Delta refused to reimburse me for the damage. My bag was a canvas bag just like theirs."

As of now, it remains unclear if any of the ETSU Men's Golf Team's equipment was damaged during the incident. The team is set to compete in the NCAA Division 1 golf championships, set to commence on Friday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad. Delta Airlines is currently working with the team to ensure they have the necessary resources to compete successfully at the event.
