**Delta Air Lines Announces Major Cabin Interior Overhaul**
Delta Air Lines is set to enhance the onboard experience for its passengers with a significant revamp of its cabin interiors. This comprehensive redesign will feature updated seating materials, improved lighting, a refreshed color scheme, new decorative elements, and signature branding. The transformation, which aims to bring a modern aesthetic to Delta's fleet, will kick off this fall with the introduction of a refurbished 27-year-old Boeing 757 aircraft. A revamped widebody Airbus A350 is expected to follow in early 2025.
The airline's general manager of Technical Operations, Alex Douglas, emphasized that the overhaul is focused on aesthetic improvements. "We're not changing the number of seats on an airplane, we're not changing the configuration, we're not changing how many (lavatories) you have. It's all what we refer to as trim and finish," Douglas explained to USA Today. Passengers will notice the difference through upgraded memory-foam cushions in widebody jets, breathable seat materials, and lighting designed to enhance relaxation.
Mauricio Parise, Delta’s vice president of customer experience design, pointed out that the redesign is part of the airline's effort to cater to evolving customer tastes and expectations. "This refreshed cabin interior infuses utility with beauty to create an atmosphere that feels fresh, elevated, and timeless," he said. The changes are informed by feedback and research from both customers and employees.
Notably, seats across various cabins will receive significant upgrades. Delta One business class passengers can expect new, temperature-regulating fabric made from a wool and nylon blend, along with engineered leather headrests. Premium Select and First Class seats will feature new memory foam cushions with breathable engineered leather, while Comfort+ and Main Cabin seats will boast updated colors, stitching, and memory foam cushions.
Lighting enhancements are also a key part of the upgrades. The new lighting scheme will help passengers adjust to time zones and is designed to suit different phases of the flight, from boarding to meal times, sleep, and waking up. The airline conducted "selfie tests" to ensure that the lighting is optimal for social media posts, ensuring a crisp, natural look in photographs.
Lavatories on the updated aircraft will feature bright walls, an accent wall with Delta's Celestial Sky pattern, azure blue cabinets, and improved flooring for better cleanliness and traction. "Delta has taken the time to develop every detail of our new interiors; the team was intentional in creating an experience that mimics our customers' lifestyles and puts them at ease as soon as they board our aircraft," Parise added.
