In an exciting update, the Los Angeles Sparks will be well-represented in the Olympic 3x3 basketball competition, as forward Dearica Hamby has been named to the 2024 U.S. Olympic 3x3 team. The announcement came after her WNBA teammate, Cameron Brink, suffered a torn ACL last week and had to step down from the team.

Expressing her gratitude, Hamby said she is honored to be chosen to represent the United States at the Paris Olympics and is eager to vie for a gold medal. With prior experience in both the American 5-on-5 and 3x3 programs, Hamby has proven her skills on the international stage. In fact, she led Team USA to victory and was named the tournament MVP at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup in December.

Jay Demings, the USA Basketball 3x3 national team director, hailed Hamby's addition and expressed anticipation for their upcoming training. He also extended his well wishes to Cameron Brink during her recovery process.

Hamby's selection made sense for several reasons, including meeting FIBA's eligibility requirements and her outstanding performance in the WNBA. Currently, she is having a career-best season with averages of 17.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, making her one of the league's top performers.

The U.S. 3x3 Women's Olympic Basketball Team faced another potential setback with star guard Rhyne Howard of the Atlanta Dream suffering an ankle injury. Howard's status remains uncertain, but if she is unable to participate, her WNBA teammate, Allisha Gray, a gold medalist in the Tokyo Games, could be a possible replacement.

The Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11. As the players gear up for the competition, all eyes will be on the U.S. 3x3 women's team as they strive for success in Paris.
