**Damian Lewis Leads Historic Sheep Drive Across the Thames**

In a nod to an age-old tradition, actor Damian Lewis crossed the River Thames driving a flock of sheep on Sunday. The event commemorates the historical privilege granted to the Freemen of the City of London, allowing them to transport livestock to market without incurring toll fees.

Dressed in his grandfather's woolen coat and equipped with a traditional shepherd's crook, Lewis took part in the annual London Sheep Drive. Wearing black hats and red cloaks, over a thousand Freemen joined him, herding the sheep over Southwark Bridge.

The event dates back to medieval times when the right to drive sheep across the river was a significant economic advantage. Lewis was chosen to represent the Worshipful Company of Woolmen, a guild with origins in the 12th century. Reflecting on the experience, Lewis expressed his delight in participating in what he described as "this eccentric, very British day."

Manny Cohen, the current Master Woolman, shared that the cherished tradition of sheep-driving was revived about 15 years ago. Today, it serves not only as a homage to the past but also as a substantial charity fundraising event.
