The team, currently lacking a starting-caliber running back on their roster, hopes to land Brooks in the second round.

However, even if they successfully acquire Brooks, the Cowboys are not finished bolstering their backfield. Reports indicate that the team recently held a meeting with the agent of veteran running back Ezekiel Elliott, Rocky Arceneaux, and it is expected that Elliott will re-sign with Dallas.

"Zeke, as we all know, is one of our favorites," expressed Cowboys' executive vice president, Stephen Jones, following the conclusion of the first round of the draft. "He's laid it on the line for this franchise. He's the ultimate competitor, and we obviously think a lot of him. It was good to run into him and Rocky. We just had a little beer and moved on."

While Elliott's performance dipped last season, with career lows in various statistical categories, he is regarded as a valuable team leader who can provide mentorship to a rookie starter. "He has laid it on the line for the Dallas Cowboys, and the Dallas Cowboys have laid it on the line for Zeke," affirmed team owner Jerry Jones.

Elliott, drafted in the first round by the Cowboys in 2016, has amassed an impressive career record, rushing for 8,904 yards and 71 touchdowns on 2,065 carries. Additionally, he has been a threat in the passing game, recording 305 receptions for 2,336 yards and 12 touchdowns.

To further complement their running back corps, the Cowboys recently signed veteran Royce Freeman and currently have Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner on their roster.

As the NFL Draft continues, the Cowboys remain determined to secure a talented running back to fortify their offensive arsenal and support their aspirations for success in the upcoming season.
