In what promises to be a grueling weekend for NTT IndyCar Series teams, crew members are preparing for the challenges that lie ahead at the Iowa Speedway. With scorching temperatures expected to soar above 90 degrees, the 27 drivers, accompanied by their dedicated crew members, are set for a demanding 250-lap race tonight, followed by another 250 laps scheduled for Sunday.

The high heat coupled with the long day-night-day schedule poses a unique set of obstacles for the teams. The action-packed weekend starts with qualifying at 3:45 pm ET, followed by setup changes after qualifying. The main race, which is set to begin at 8 pm, is estimated to run for at least 90 minutes. However, the real test lies in the race's aftermath, as teams have until 11 pm to prepare their cars for Sunday morning's Race 2.

Reigning championship-winning team manager, Barry Wanser of Chip Ganassi Racing, expressed his team's preparations, stating that they have pre-planned changes in place for necessary parts replacements. While hoping to emerge from the race without any accidents, the team is ready to mobilize crew members from other cars to assist in repairs if needed. Additionally, several right-side suspension parts will be replaced as a precautionary measure due to the high loading at the Iowa Speedway.

Wanser emphasized the importance of efficiency in their post-race preparations in order to maximize rest time before Sunday's race. The goal is to complete the necessary work as soon as possible and allow crew members to rest and recharge after a grueling night.

To alleviate the effects of the scorching heat, IndyCar has made efforts to manage the workload by closing the garages until 11:30 am. Teams are encouraged to minimize crew members' exposure to the extreme temperatures by bringing them into air-conditioned transporters after completing their duties on the cars or tracks.

As the heatwave continues, crews are buzzing with anticipation for Sunday's Race 2, with temperatures expected to reach a scorching 94°F (34°C). Despite the challenges, teams are focused on their race strategy, implementing overnight changes suggested by their engineers to optimize performance during qualifying. This year's unique doubleheader format allows for specific qualifying setups, followed by adjustments to achieve an optimal race setup.

The onus is on the teams to ensure hydration and nourishment for their crew members throughout the intense weekend. The ultimate goal is to finish both races with clean races for all teams involved. By exiting the track promptly at 11 pm without the need for costly repairs, teams can capitalize on nearby hotel accommodations for some much-needed rest before the next day's action.

The crews are resolute in their determination to successfully navigate the doubleheader, capitalize on maximum turnaround time, and return on Sunday morning at 6 am ready to face the challenges once again. With careful planning, strategic adjustments, and utmost endurance in the face of scorching heat, the teams are ready for a thrilling racing weekend at Iowa Speedway.
