In a surprising turn of events at Glastonbury, controversy has erupted surrounding the absence of the Stars of David symbol on a kosher butcher sign in the festival's southeast corner. The symbol, which had adorned the sign in previous years, was noticeably painted over this year, leaving many questioning the decision.

The sign, belonging to the "M.Levine meat" kosher butcher, was located at the NYC Downlow temporary nightclub, known for its queer-themed events that raise funds for charitable causes. The nightclub itself is designed to replicate an 1980s meat packing site, complete with imitation pig carcasses. The removal of the Stars of David from the sign has sparked speculation about the potential reasons behind this change.

The fact that the omission was first pointed out by Izzy Lenga, a Jewish Labour councillor representing Camden, has raised further concerns. Many are now awaiting a response from festival organizer Emily Eavis regarding the controversy.

Opposite the NYC Downlow is the Temple live stage, where Palestine Action will be hosting an event focused on dismantling the war machine. Near the venue, a large poster calling for an end to arms sales to Israel and a boycott has also caught attention.

It is worth noting that the Block9 area, where the NYC Downlow club is located, is sponsored by organizations such as Medical Aid for Palestinians, Crisis, and Freedom From Torture.

As the controversy continues to gain traction, it remains to be seen how festival organizers will react and address the situation in order to quell the concerns raised during this year's Glastonbury festival.
