In a bid to address the growing tensions at Red Bull, Christian Horner, the team principal, held a face-to-face meeting with Max Verstappen's representative on Monday. This move comes after allegations of inappropriate behavior against Horner were dismissed following an investigation initiated by Red Bull's parent company.
The meeting took place in Dubai, with Horner and Max Verstappen's agent aiming to iron out the rising tensions within the team. The focus on Horner intensified during the Bahrain Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen led Sergio Perez in a Red Bull 1-2 finish. Despite the investigation clearing him of any wrongdoing, Horner faced renewed pressure as alleged evidence leaked to the media and F1 team principals from an anonymous email account.
Jos Verstappen, Max's father, expressed his concerns about the situation, warning that Red Bull could be "torn apart" if Horner continues in his position. It's worth noting that Jos made these remarks before the Bahrain Grand Prix and still stands by them.
Horner, however, remains confident in his position as the head of Red Bull and confirmed he will lead the team at the upcoming Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. When asked if he expects to remain in his role, Horner replied with a resolute "yes," emphasizing the unity within the team and the support of their partners and shareholders.
The Bahrain Grand Prix proved to be a successful start to the new season for Red Bull, as Max Verstappen dominated the race, leading every lap and claiming victory ahead of his teammate Perez. Horner, accompanied by his wife Geri Horner and Red Bull GmbH majority stakeholder Chalerm Yoovidhya, witnessed the podium celebrations.
While Horner acknowledged that the past few days have been challenging, he remains focused on the on-track performances and reaffirmed his intention to continue in his dual roles as team principal and chief executive until at least the end of the season. He refrained from commenting on the leaked material, referring to them as "anonymous speculative messages from an unknown source."
The team now looks ahead to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, aiming to build on their success in Bahrain. With tensions being addressed by the meeting between Horner and Verstappen's agent, Red Bull hopes to maintain unity and focus on further on-track achievements.
