In a heartbreaking blow to the Kansas City Chiefs, running back Isiah Pacheco sustained a fractured fibula during the team's thrilling Week 2 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, team sources confirmed on Monday. This unfortunate injury will keep Pacheco sidelined for the foreseeable future, with expectations that he will be placed on injured reserve, resulting in him missing at least the next four games.

Pacheco, who played a significant role in the game, remained on the field for almost the entire duration. However, his last carry occurred on the first play following the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter, just moments before the Chiefs' game-winning field goal. Departing Arrowhead Stadium on crutches and sporting a protective boot on his right foot, Pacheco's absence will undoubtedly be felt by the team.

The Chiefs had been grappling with depth concerns at the running back position since the commencement of training camp. With this unfortunate setback marking Pacheco's first significant injury in his career, the Chiefs will likely have to heavily rely on rookie fullback Carson Steele and recently acquired seven-year veteran Samaje Perine, who joined the team a mere two weeks ago.

Should the Chiefs opt to sign a veteran running back, Jerick McKinnon emerges as a viable option. McKinnon played a pivotal role in the offense over the past two seasons, showcasing his prowess as an exceptional third-down back.

Prior to his injury, Pacheco had displayed exemplary performance on the field, tallying an impressive 90 rushing yards on 19 carries and adding five receptions for 21 yards against the Bengals. So far this season, he has accumulated 135 rushing yards and one touchdown on 34 carries, along with seven receptions for 54 yards. His absence leaves a significant void in the Chiefs' offensive arsenal.

The loss of Isiah Pacheco undoubtedly brings forth a challenging scenario for the Kansas City Chiefs, as they navigate the next few weeks without their talented running back. The team will have to rely on their remaining options to step up and contribute, while they consider potential reinforcements to bolster their backfield.
