**Chicago White Sox Potential Ownership Change: Reinsdorf in Talks to Sell Team**

As speculations rise, it appears that Chicago White Sox's longtime majority owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, might be ready to entrust the team's future to new hands. Despite years of denying interest in selling, sources have informed The Athletic that the 88-year-old Reinsdorf is in active discussions with a group led by former MLB pitcher Dave Stewart.

The group, named Smoke34, previously made efforts to purchase Oakland’s stake in the Oakland Coliseum and has been pushing to bring an expansion team to Nashville. This connection to Nashville raises questions, as there were reports last December hinting that Reinsdorf might move the White Sox there. However, many believed this was merely a strategy to secure public funding for a new stadium in Chicago's "The 78" area.

Reinsdorf's tenure as the principal owner began in 1981 when he and his partners acquired the White Sox from Bill Veeck for $19 million. Initially possessing a small share, Reinsdorf increased his ownership to 19% over time. His leadership saw the team achieve seven postseason appearances and a World Series title in 2005, but recent years have seen the White Sox struggle, culminating in a record-setting 121 losses in the latest season.

The White Sox's lease at Guaranteed Rate Field extends through 2029, but a new ownership group could potentially renegotiate terms with the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, which currently sees little to no rent from the team due to attendance stipulations.

As Reinsdorf approaches the twilight of his career, the possibility of selling to a group led by a former player could signal a new era for the White Sox. Fans and analysts alike hope this change might rejuvenate a team that has faced significant challenges in recent years.
