In a recent development, the struggling Chicago White Sox have placed outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the 10-day injured list due to left Achilles tendinitis. The decision was made after Benintendi left Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers in the bottom of the third inning, following his impressive solo home run in the top half of the inning.
With a currently disappointing season, the White Sox, who currently hold the worst record in the majors at 15-44, are hoping for a turnaround. Benintendi, a career .272 hitter, has struggled this year, batting .195 with five doubles, four home runs, and 18 RBIs in 51 games.
To fill the void left by Benintendi's absence, the team has recalled outfielder Oscar Colas from Triple-A Charlotte. Colas, who appeared in one game for the White Sox this season, going 0-for-1 at the plate on April 10 against the Cleveland Guardians, had a batting average of .216 in 75 games with Chicago last season. At Charlotte this season, Colas has been performing well, hitting .244 with seven doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 21 RBIs.
The White Sox will be looking to Colas to contribute offensively and provide support in the outfield. With their struggles continuing, the team hopes that the addition of Colas will bring some much-needed spark to their lineup.
As Benintendi begins his road to recovery, the White Sox will aim to utilize Colas' talents and work towards turning their season around. Only time will tell if this move will be the catalyst for a much-needed turnaround for the struggling team.
