### Cell Phone Battery Fire Causes Evacuation of Southwest Airlines Flight in Denver
In an alarming incident on Friday, passengers aboard a Southwest Airlines flight preparing to depart from Denver faced an unexpected evacuation after a cell phone battery ignited. The fire, which also set a seat ablaze, forced immediate action while the Boeing 737-700 was still stationed at the gate at Denver International Airport.
As flames spread from the rear of the plane, passengers were quick to respond. Those seated at the back utilized rear emergency slides to exit, while individuals toward the front disembarked through the front door using the jet bridge. According to reports from both the Federal Aviation Administration and Southwest Airlines, the aircraft had 108 passengers on board at the time.
Initial reports from the airline indicate that one passenger sustained a minor injury during the evacuation process. Additionally, the owner of the phone that caught fire is currently receiving treatment for burn injuries. Fortunately, quick-thinking crew members managed to extinguish the fire before it could cause further damage.
"Southwest's customer care team is working to accommodate the passengers on another aircraft to their original destination of Houston," stated an airline spokesperson. "Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of its customers and employees. The incident remains under investigation."
Despite the incident, the flight was able to reach its destination at William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, albeit three hours behind schedule. The FAA has announced that it will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
