Paris was a blend of jubilation and chaos overnight as Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans celebrated their team's stunning 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final. The streets of the capital echoed with car horns, cheers, and fireworks, establishing an electrifying atmosphere of triumph. However, the celebrations took a dark turn, resulting in the deaths of two people and the arrest of hundreds.

The Ministry of the Interior reported that 491 individuals were detained in Paris following violent interactions with law enforcement, primarily on the Champs-Elysees avenue where thousands of fans had gathered. Nationwide, the total number of arrests reached 559. During the celebrations, a man lost his life in the city's southern 15th arrondissement after his scooter was hit by a car. In Dax, a southwestern town, a 17-year-old was fatally stabbed during a gathering in honor of PSG's victory.

Despite the overnight disturbances, a victory parade was planned on the Champs-Elysees for Sunday, expecting tens of thousands of fans to gather and celebrate with the returning team. However, during the spontaneous celebrations, police had to use water cannons to prevent crowds from advancing toward the Arc de Triomphe due to several instances of large fireworks and other objects being thrown.

Amid the revelry, a car incident in Grenoble resulted in four injuries, including two serious cases, all involving members of the same family. The driver, who later turned himself into the authorities, was reported to have neither consumed alcohol nor drugs and was thought to have not acted intentionally.

The vast majority of fans celebrated the historic win peacefully, with scuffles reported near the Champs-Elysees avenue and PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium, where 48,000 spectators had gathered to watch the match on giant screens. The Paris police stated that many arrests were linked to individuals illegally possessing fireworks and causing public disorder.

PSG's triumph in Munich marks the club's first UEFA Champions League victory, a milestone celebrated passionately by their supporters. French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his congratulations and announced plans to personally host the victorious team. Macron celebrated the event on social media, calling it a "day of glory for PSG."

According to the Mediametrie audience-measurement company and Canal+, the event drew an audience of 11.5 million viewers across France, underscoring the significance of the victory both locally and nationally.
