TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a food safety alert urging people to refrain from consuming 'RAW FARM' brand raw cheddar cheese due to its connection to an E. Coli outbreak. Manufactured by Raw Farm LLC, the cheese product is sold nationwide in block and shredded packages.

As of February 16, the CDC has reported that this contaminated cheese has led to sickness in 10 individuals, resulting in four hospitalizations across states including California, Utah, Colorado, and Texas. Fortunately, no deaths have been associated with this food safety alert.

Symptoms of E. Coli infection may include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, typically appearing three to four days after consuming the contaminated product. While most individuals recover within five to seven days without medical intervention, E. Coli can lead to more serious complications such as severe kidney problems, necessitating hospitalization.

Individuals who have purchased the recalled 'RAW FARM' brand raw cheddar cheese are advised by the CDC to dispose of the product or return it to the point of sale. Additionally, it is recommended to thoroughly wash any items or surfaces that may have come into contact with the cheese using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
