In a shocking incident on Monday afternoon, a car rammed into the entry gate of the Atlanta FBI field office as the suspect attempted to gain access to the facility. According to FBI Atlanta spokesperson Tony Thomas, the incident occurred shortly after noon.
The suspect, whose identity remains unknown, fled the scene on foot after exiting the vehicle, but was swiftly apprehended. The individual was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation before being placed in the custody of DeKalb County police, as confirmed by a federal law enforcement official.
FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Peter Ellis addressed the media, noting that the suspect, who had no affiliation with the facility, was apparently trying to follow an employee through the front gate. Fortunately, the security measures in place prevented the suspect from entering the premises.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, as emphasized by Ellis. The authorities promptly dispatched bomb technicians to thoroughly inspect the vehicle, ensuring no potential threat remained.
Officials at the scene revealed that the suspect remained silent throughout the arrest and did not provide any indication of motive. The FBI has initiated an investigation into the incident, with Ellis stating that both state and federal charges are being considered.
Luckily, no FBI personnel were harmed during the shocking incident, as stated by Thomas. As the case unfolds, the FBI will continue to provide updates to the public.
