In a surprising turn of events, another beloved cast member of the hit NBC series "Law & Order" will be departing the show. Following Sam Waterston's exit earlier this year, fans will also have to say goodbye to Camryn Manheim, whose final appearance will be in the Season 23 finale airing on May 16, Deadline has confirmed.
Manheim, known for her role as Lieutenant Kate Dixon, joined the show in the Season 21 premiere titled "The Right Thing." While she had previously portrayed smaller roles in seasons 1, 3, and 4, her portrayal of Dixon became a fan favorite. Currently serving as the commanding officer of the Manhattan North Homicide Squad's 27th Precinct, her character brought depth and expertise to the series.
Series creator Dick Wolf expressed his gratitude to Manheim, stating, "I thank Camryn for her three wonderful seasons helping us relaunch Law & Order. She is a class act, and I wish her nothing but the best for her next chapter."
With Waterston's departure, Tony Goldwyn joined the series as the new district attorney, Nicholas Baxter. However, there is no word yet on who will take over commanding officer duties for Dixon in Season 24. Prior to Dixon's leadership, the top boss role was held by Anita Van Buren, portrayed by S. Epatha Merkerson, who currently stars in the Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television series, "Chicago Med."
Variety was the first to announce Manheim's exit, leaving fans eagerly anticipating how her character's storyline will conclude in the upcoming Season 23 finale. As the show bids adieu to another talented actor, viewers will surely miss the presence of Camryn Manheim in the iconic "Law & Order" franchise.
The Season 23 finale of "Law & Order" featuring Camryn Manheim will air on May 16, marking the end of an era for both the character of Lieutenant Kate Dixon and the talented actress behind her.
