In a surprising turn of events, it seems that Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is no longer prioritizing the idea of playing on the same team as his son, USC freshman guard Bronny James. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski revealed this information during Tuesday's episode of NBA Today.

According to conversations with LeBron's agent, Rich Paul, Wojnarowski reported that the desire for father-son duo to play together is no longer at the forefront of LeBron's mind. This news comes as Bronny James recently declared for the 2024 NBA draft, while still maintaining his college eligibility by entering the transfer portal.

Bronny's first season at USC did not go as planned, as he suffered a cardiac arrest during a workout in July. However, after making a full recovery, he was able to make his collegiate debut in December. Throughout the season, Bronny played in 25 games, starting six of them, and averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.

Wojnarowski also revealed that Rich Paul is now evaluating if there are teams willing to commit to Bronny's development. Given his previous health scare and a five-month hiatus from playing, Paul's goal is to find the right system or organization that can nurture the 19-year-old's potential. It is highly likely that if Bronny enters the draft, he will spend the next year in the G League, the NBA's official minor league.

As for the Lakers, Wojnarowski explained that the team is considering trading away their first-round pick instead of using it to select Bronny. This diminishes the chances of the father-son duo finally teaming up on the court, as many fans had hoped.

The uncertainty surrounding Bronny's draft prospects and the shifting priorities of LeBron James have left fans and basketball enthusiasts questioning what the future holds for the James family's basketball dynasty. As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on Bronny as he navigates his path towards fulfilling his NBA dreams, with or without his legendary father by his side.
