Boston Celtics center, Kirstaps Porzingis, who had made a strong comeback from a right leg injury, unfortunately, suffered a different injury during Game 2 against the Dallas Mavericks. The Celtics described the injury to his left leg as "rare" in a statement released by the team. Porzingis specifically suffered a torn medial retinaculum, resulting in the dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg. The incident occurred at 3:27 of the third quarter.

Following the injury, the Celtics consulted with various specialists to determine the severity of Porzingis' condition. As a result, his availability for upcoming games will be determined on a day-to-day basis, as stated by the team. However, Porzingis remains optimistic, expressing his determination to make a swift return to the court. "I have to be (optimistic) and I will do everything I can to be out there tomorrow," Porzingis told reporters in Dallas on Tuesday.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla, unfortunately, did not witness the moment when Porzingis got injured. Mazzulla emphasized that it is Porzingis' responsibility to prioritize his health and well-being. "It's his job to fight like hell, to put himself in the best position to feel as good as he can. But we're not going to let him compromise himself," Mazzulla said during a press conference. When asked about the likelihood of Porzingis playing in Game 3, Mazzulla admitted to having no idea regarding his player's availability.

Clarifying any potential confusion, the team stated that Porzingis' new injury is unrelated to his previous right calf injury, which had kept him out of action from April 29 through the start of the NBA Finals. Despite initial concerns about his performance in Game 1, Porzingis impressed on the court, contributing 11 points during a crucial 23-5 Celtics run to close the first quarter. In total, he recorded 20 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. However, Porzingis struggled in Game 2, visibly limping and tallying 12 points.

As the NBA Finals continue, all eyes will be on the Celtics and their star center Porzingis, eagerly awaiting updates on his recovery and potential return to the court.
