In a tragic turn of events, authorities have confirmed that the body found in the Connecticut River on Sunday belongs to Mardrey Swenson, a 76-year-old woman who had gone missing from Lebanon, New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Fish and Game made the announcement after conducting preliminary investigations.
Swenson was reported missing around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday after she walked away from her home in the area of 15 Oak Ridge. Concern grew as the hours went by without any sign of her whereabouts. The Lebanon police, along with the New Hampshire State Police helicopter, nine K-9 teams, and ground crews, launched an extensive search operation in the vicinity of Swenson's house.
Thanks to the vigilance of a fisherman, the authorities were alerted to a possible body in the river. After responding to the call, the police recovered the body Sunday afternoon. Lebanon police chief Phil Roberts expressed his gratitude for the tremendous support received from the community during the search efforts. Numerous civilian search and rescue members and their canines played a crucial role, alongside the New Hampshire State Police helicopter.
A missing vulnerable adult/silver alert had been issued, but it was sadly canceled on Sunday afternoon upon the discovery of Swenson's body. According to her husband, Swenson was fast asleep in bed at 10 p.m., but when he woke up at 2:30 a.m., she was no longer in the house. Foul play is not suspected at this time, as investigations are still ongoing.
The community has been deeply saddened by the news of Swenson's passing, and heartfelt condolences are sent to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
