The bodies of three missing surfers, including a man reportedly from San Diego, have been discovered by Mexican authorities in La Bocana, approximately 130 miles south of San Diego, according to the Baja California Attorney General's Office. The surfers were identified as Jack Carter Rhoad from San Diego, and Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, as reported by FOX 5/KUSI's reporting partners at The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The surfers were reported missing earlier this week through social media posts, prompting Baja California authorities to officially announce their disappearance in a press release on Thursday. The three men had failed to check into their Airbnb in Rosarito after embarking on a surfing trip south of Ensenada.
The identities of the deceased surfers have not yet been confirmed by the attorney general's office or made known to FOX 5/KUSI. However, Mexican officials stated that evidence linked to the case, including a white pickup truck, had been found. As a result, three Mexican nationals are currently under investigation.
No further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the surfers' disappearance have been released at this time. However, it has been revealed that the attorney general's office, along with the assistance of the FBI and officials from the U.S. and Australian consulates, are working collaboratively to solve the case.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the surfing community and has sparked concerns about safety in the area. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are expected to provide more information to provide clarity on the events leading up to the surfers' demise.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and loved ones of Jack Carter Rhoad, Jake Robinson, and Callum Robinson, as they navigate through this devastating loss.
