**Bill Maher Critiques Pop Star Chappell Roan's Anti-Israel Comments on ‘Real Time'**

On his Friday show, HBO host Bill Maher took a critical stance against pop sensation Chappell Roan, addressing her recent anti-Israel remarks. In his "New Rule" segment, Maher focused on Roan's claims about Israel and her criticism of U.S. political support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas in Gaza.

Maher began by acknowledging Roan's popularity, citing her breakout hits "Good Luck, Babe!" and "HOT TO GO!" but quickly moved to confront her statements on social media. Roan, who is openly gay, has been vocal about her stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, even choosing to skip a White House Pride event as a protest against the Biden administration's policies. She has accused the Democratic Party of holding "genocidal" positions towards Palestinians in a TikTok video.

Addressing Roan directly, Maher said, "Chappell, if you think it was repressive growing up queer in the Midwest, try the Mideast." He argued that Roan’s understanding of the conflict is superficial and heavily influenced by social media, particularly TikTok. The host suggested that the pop star and her peers might be swayed by what he describes as propaganda rather than a thorough grasp of historical facts.

During the segment, Maher highlighted that while it’s natural to be moved by the images of Palestinian casualties shown on social media, he was perplexed at the apparent lack of empathy from Gen Z for Jewish victims of the October 7 massacre in Israel. He drew a controversial comparison, pointing out the irony in Roan's success at music festivals like Coachella while criticizing young victims of Hamas attacks at similar gatherings.

Maher then touched upon Roan's LGBTQ-themed lyrics, suggesting that they would not be tolerated in Gaza's conservative society. He told her, "You're a female drag queen, and you sing, 'I f----- you in the bathroom when we went to dinner, your parents at the table.' Yeah, that wouldn't fly in Gaza, although you would, straight off a roof."

Concluding his remarks, Maher clarified that while Roan isn’t wrong in noting the oppression faced by Palestinian and many Muslim populations, she has misidentified the source of the oppression. He emphasized the importance of understanding the complexities of the issue beyond the simplified narratives found on social media.

In a mix of praise and critique, Maher commended Roan for her willingness to question information but urged her to seek a deeper understanding of historical and geopolitical contexts. This segment has added another layer to the ongoing public discourse surrounding the Israel-Palestine conflict, especially among younger generations influenced by social media platforms.
