**Surfing Icon Bethany Hamilton Seeks Medical Miracle for Nephew Following Drowning Incident**
Bethany Hamilton, widely known for surviving a shark attack that almost ended her career in surfing, is now fervently seeking a medical miracle for her three-year-old nephew, Andrew, who is fighting for his life after being found unconscious in a bathtub in Hawaii.
The young boy, described as "precious" by his aunt Bethany, was discovered not breathing and was promptly medevacked to Kapiolani in Oahu on Saturday morning. Despite the critical situation, Andrew, who is currently in intensive care, still shows vital signs including a heartbeat, offering a glimmer of hope to his distressed family.
Bethany, 34, highlighted the importance of proper medical assistance in such emergencies, saying, “We are wrecked. But I know how proper medical support can make or break someone's chance of survival. In this case, we're asking for help from anyone who has information on what we can do to give my nephew the best chance.”
Noah Hamilton, Bethany's brother and not Andrew’s father, also expressed the family's profound concern and requested prayers for Andrew, calling him a “strong, resilient kid” and an “amazing swimmer.” Noah recounted how Andrew was found not breathing in shallow water in the bathtub and praised the efforts that ensured his vitals were stable enough for transport to Oahu.
In their search for solutions, the family was able to contact Dr. Paul Harch, an expert in hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), which involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber. This treatment aims to enhance oxygen levels in the bloodstream, potentially helping heal brain tissue. Dr. Harch's intervention is renowned, particularly noted for an extraordinary case in 2017 where he successfully reversed the brain damage of a two-year-old drowning victim named Eden Carlson.
Eden's case demonstrated the potential of HBOT when, after extensive treatment, she miraculously recovered from a near-vegetative state to running, talking, and laughing normally. Her remarkable progress was documented and published in the Medical Gas Research journal.
Bethany’s resilience is well recorded, having returned to professional surfing merely a month after losing her arm to a shark attack at age 13. Now, she channels the same determination toward aiding her nephew, as the family continues to reach out for any expert who can provide the needed medical assistance.
The family is hopeful and relies on prayers and medical expertise to navigate Andrew’s critical condition. The public has responded with numerous messages of support and encouragement, sharing their experiences and extending their best wishes for a miraculous recovery for young Andrew.
