Belgium's hopes of a strong tournament run were called into question after a lackluster draw against Ukraine secured their qualification to the round of 16. The match ended scoreless, leaving both teams disappointed with their performance.

The nervy encounter saw Ukraine putting up a strong defensive display, with Belgium struggling to break through their lines. In the seventh minute, Romelu Lukaku had the best chance of the match after being played in by a superb pass from Kevin De Bruyne. However, Lukaku failed to convert the opportunity, setting the tone for Belgium's frustrating evening.

With all four teams in Group E locked on four points heading into the final games, the stakes were high for each side. A win would have guaranteed qualification, and both Belgium and Ukraine went hunting for goals from the kick-off. However, both teams struggled to find the back of the net.

Despite Ukraine's strong defensive efforts, they also had chances of their own. Roman Yaremchuk had a promising opportunity to put Ukraine ahead, but instead of shooting, he opted to pass and the ball flew harmlessly across the goal.

At half-time, all four teams in the group had only gained a point. In a simultaneous match in Frankfurt, Romania and Slovakia drew 1-1, leaving the door open for Ukraine to push for victory in the second half.

Despite making a triple substitution in the 70th minute, Ukraine failed to find the breakthrough they needed. Substitute Yannick Carrasco almost sealed the win for Belgium with a powerful shot that was parried away by Anatoliy Trubin.

In the closing minutes of the match, both teams had opportunities to snatch a late winner. However, Bakayoko's shot for Belgium missed the goal, and Georgiy Sudakov wasted a golden chance for Ukraine in stoppage time by firing straight at Belgian goalkeeper Koen Casteels.

With the final whistle, Belgium secured their qualification to the round of 16 by finishing in second place in Group E. Despite their inconsistent performances, they will have a chance to redeem themselves in their upcoming last-16 tie against France.

However, the Belgian players were met with boos and whistles from the stands due to another unimpressive display. The supporters expressed their disappointment in hopes that the team can raise their level of play in the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's tournament journey comes to an end as they finish at the bottom of the group on goal difference. They can take pride in their resilient defensive performance, but will be left wondering what could have been if they had been more clinical in front of goal.

Now, both Belgium and Ukraine must regroup and prepare for their respective paths moving forward in the European Championship.
