Baltimore residents can expect nearly perfect weather on Sunday, Father's Day, as temperatures remain slightly below average at around 85ºF. However, the calm before the storm will be short-lived as a heat wave looms on the horizon.

The Jet Stream will play a crucial role in determining the intensity of the impending heat wave. A building Ridge of High Pressure will keep it at bay along the East Coast for most of the week. The center of this Ridge, located off the East Coast, will create the Bermuda High, contributing to the heat wave that is expected to engulf the region.

High Pressure will remain locked in place throughout the week, resulting in stable air and inhibiting cloud formation while increasing humidity levels. This combination will gradually make each day less comfortable. Unfortunately, there is not much rain in sight, putting Baltimore at risk of drought conditions, as no organized weather features are expected to affect the area.

Looking further into the week, there may be some spotty pop-up thunderstorms as temperatures soar towards the end of the week. The GFS Model forecast for Baltimore at BWI suggests that temperatures may even reach over 100ºF next weekend, with the humidity acting as a mitigating factor. However, the possibility of surpassing the 105ºF Heat Index threshold cannot be ruled out, potentially prompting the issuance of Heat Advisories.

With the heat wave on the horizon, the chances of substantial rainfall become increasingly slim. Only isolated storms may develop during the later part of the week, further exacerbating the potential for high temperatures and uncomfortable conditions.

Baltimore residents are advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and stay hydrated during this anticipated heat wave. It is crucial to stay updated with weather forecasts and adhere to any Heat Advisories or warnings issued by local authorities.

As the mercury rises and the race against the scorching heat begins, Baltimore prepares for an arduous battle against the elements.
