In a heartfelt Instagram post, Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn, also known as B-Girl Raygun, opened up about the overwhelming backlash she has faced since her participation in the Paris Olympics. Gunn expressed her gratitude for the support she received, but also expressed her devastation over the hate she has encountered.

Gunn's performance at the Olympics garnered attention both online and in mainstream media after she lost all three of her round robin battles in the breaking competition, which made its Olympic debut in Paris. Despite the criticism, Gunn emphasized that she approached the games with dedication and gave her all in preparation.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) stepped forward to defend Gunn against a controversial online petition that called for an investigation into her selection for the Paris Olympics. AOC chief executive, Matt Carroll, denounced the petition as false and aimed at inciting hatred. He reaffirmed that Gunn was chosen through a fair and transparent qualification process.

Addressing the media and public, Gunn made a plea for privacy for herself and her loved ones, as they have endured immense pressure and scrutiny. She asked the press to stop harassing her family, friends, and the Australian breaking community, as well as the broader street dance community. Gunn also shared her plans to take a few weeks of previously scheduled holiday in Europe and promised to address any further questions upon her return to Australia.

Meanwhile, a Change.org petition calling for Gunn to apologize amassed over 54,000 signatures. However, the AOC intervened and requested the removal of the petition from the website, noting its vexatious and bullying nature.

As Gunn braces herself in the face of public scrutiny, it is clear that she remains resolute in her love for her sport and the joy it brings to her audience and supporters. The breaking community and fans alike continue to rally behind the talented Australian breakdancer.
