**Braves Reappoint Fredi González as Third Base Coach; Tuiasosopo Moves to Minor League Coordinator**

The Atlanta Braves announced a significant coaching change, bringing back Fredi González as their third base coach. González previously managed the Braves from 2011 to 2016, overseeing the team to a .512 winning percentage during his tenure and leading them to consecutive playoff appearances in 2012 and 2013. Matt Tuiasosopo, who formerly held the role, has been reassigned to the position of minor league infield coordinator.

González takes over for Tuiasosopo amid some notable baserunning blunders this season. The Braves have had four runners thrown out at home plate, including a critical mistake on May 17 when Jarren Duran easily eliminated Alex Verdugo. Additionally, on May 23, a miscommunication resulted in Eli White being thrown out after misreading a stop sign, which added to the scrutiny of the team's baserunning decisions. While White took full responsibility for the error, labeling it "a bad read and misjudgment on my part," the incident highlighted ongoing issues that the organization hopes González can help address.

After leaving the Braves midseason in 2016, González spent time as the third base coach for the Miami Marlins before joining the Baltimore Orioles staff in 2020, where he served as bench coach for three seasons. He was let go by the Orioles last winter, and his return to the Braves marks his first coaching position since then.

The decision to bring González back coincides with a meeting last week between him and current Braves manager Brian Snitker, a close friend and colleague. Snitker, who has been with the Braves as a manager since 2016 and stands as one of the franchise's most successful figures, previously worked with González when he served as third base coach between 2011 and 2013. According to Braves' President of Baseball Operations Alex Anthopoulos, the decision to rehire González was only seriously considered the day prior to the announcement.

The Braves are optimistic that González’s return will bring a veteran presence and a refined strategy to their coaching staff, ultimately helping to correct the baserunning miscues that have been affecting their performance this season.
