Arizona Diamondbacks starting shortstop Geraldo Perdomo has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a torn meniscus in his right knee. The injury, sustained during Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees, will require surgery and is expected to keep Perdomo out of play for at least a month.

Perdomo left the game in the bottom of the 10th inning after hitting a ground ball to second base. Despite reaching first base safely on a Yankees error, Perdomo displayed a noticeable limp as he made his way to second base. It was later revealed that he had injured himself around first base.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo stated that Perdomo's injury is day-to-day, but the team remains cautious about his return. Perdomo had previously missed time during spring training with a knee issue, although it was his left leg that was affected.

Lovullo mentioned that Perdomo is currently "gutting out" the injury in the hopes that rest will improve his condition. However, the team is still waiting for more information and monitoring his progress over the next few games.

Geraldo Perdomo had a breakout season as Arizona's primary shortstop in 2023, earning a spot on the All-Star team and starting every postseason game. He showcased strong offensive skills and was known for his disciplined approach at the plate. In Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers, his home run ignited a four-homer inning.

With Perdomo sidelined, Blaze Alexander is expected to assume a larger role at shortstop. Lovullo expressed confidence in Alexander's abilities and intends to give him favorable matchups for success early in his career. Alexander has already started five games and is hitting .278 with a home run.

In other roster moves, the D-backs have selected Kevin Newman's contract from Triple-A Reno. Newman, who has been playing shortstop for Reno due to Jordan Lawlar's injury, will start at second base against the Atlanta Braves. Corbin Martin, a right-handed pitcher, has been designated for assignment.

The Diamondbacks will be closely monitoring Perdomo's recovery process and are hopeful for a swift return to the lineup.
