In an exciting announcement at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, Apple revealed the latest version of its operating system for Mac, macOS Sequoia, also known as macOS 15. Packed with new features, the update brings improvements to Messages and introduces a novel way to mirror and interact with an iPhone on a Mac screen.

One unexpected surprise in macOS Sequoia is the revamped Chess game that comes pre-installed on every Mac. Apple has rebuilt the game with modern graphics, replacing the glossy background with a new grainy gradient for a fresh look. Additionally, the board and pieces now showcase brighter and more realistic textures, offering an enhanced gaming experience.

While the previous version of the Chess game offered four style options, the new iteration has been streamlined, offering three choices: Wood, Marble, and Metal. Unfortunately, the Grass style has been removed, and the ability to select different styles for the board and pieces is no longer available. Nevertheless, Apple's dedication to updating this classic macOS game is commendable.

Apple's Chess game has a long-standing history, dating back to the days of NeXTSTEP, the predecessor to Mac OS X. Since then, it has been ported to the latest versions of the operating system, with the last update occurring in 2012 with the release of OS X Mountain Lion.

macOS Sequoia, however, is not solely about the Chess game. Users will now experience improved Continuity features between Mac and iPhone. Alongside mirroring their iPhone screen on their Mac, users can now interact with the iPhone screen directly from their Mac. This enhanced integration offers a seamless and integrated user experience across multiple Apple devices.

Moreover, Apple has introduced a standalone Passwords app with macOS Sequoia. This app allows users to easily manage their passwords without relying on third-party apps, streamlining security measures and further enhancing user convenience.

Excitingly, Apple Intelligence, an AI-based feature, will eventually be incorporated into macOS Sequoia, enabling a host of advanced functionalities for Mac users. From intelligent suggestions to personalized recommendations, the Mac experience will be elevated with the power of artificial intelligence.

macOS Sequoia is set to be released to the public in the fall of this year. Developers can already access a preview version, while a public beta will be available next month. Apple enthusiasts and Mac users can look forward to exploring the new features and improvements in this highly anticipated update.
