According to the latest report from Counterpoint Research, Apple's high-end iPhone models have emerged as the top contenders in the global smartphone market, surpassing all other iPhone models as well as Samsung's flagship and mid-range smartphones. Counterpoint's data for Q1 2024 versus 2023 reveals that the newest iPhone models, including the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 14, secured the top four spots in terms of sales.
In an unexpected turn of events, the iPhone 15 Pro Max variant claimed the top position in Apple's non-seasonal quarter. This reflects a growing trend where consumers are increasingly gravitating towards high-end smartphones. Counterpoint estimates that sales of the iPhone Pro models accounted for more than 60% of Apple's total smartphone revenue, highlighting their significant contribution to the company's financial success.
The research firm also highlighted the remarkable growth in the popularity of Apple's Pro models. In Q1 2020, Pro devices constituted only 24% of iPhone sales, but this figure surged to over 50% in Q1 2024. Counterpoint attributes this growth to a variety of factors, one of which is consumers holding onto their devices for longer periods before upgrading.
Looking ahead, Counterpoint predicts that the top 10 best-selling smartphones will continue to capture a larger share of the overall smartphone market. This aligns with the trend observed in January, where different industry firms reported Apple outselling Samsung worldwide throughout 2023.
While Apple's high-end iPhone market share shows positive momentum, the overall iPhone sales in Q1 2024 experienced a 10% decline compared to the same period in 2023. However, the company's strong Services revenue succeeded in buoying overall revenue for the quarter.
As the smartphone industry evolves, Apple's domination with its high-end iPhone models suggests a shift in consumer preferences towards top-tier devices. With new advancements on the horizon and an ever-increasing desire for premium smartphones, Apple seems poised to maintain its strong presence in the global smartphone market.
