In an unexpected move, Apple has announced that it will be retiring the Siri Watch face with the launch of watchOS 11 this fall. This marks the first time that Apple has removed a Watch face, adding to the extensive range of over 50 faces that have been introduced thus far.
The Siri Watch face, known for its timely and helpful display of information including appointments, traffic updates, and sunset times, will make way for a new feature called the "Smart Stack." The Smart Stack is reminiscent of the Siri face, allowing users to scroll through a list of widgets using the Digital Crown on any Watch face except for the Siri face.
With the forthcoming watchOS 11 update, Apple promises a more intelligent Smart Stack that considers factors such as time, location, and user preferences when displaying widgets. For instance, the Watch will automatically show the Shazam widget when music is detected nearby. Additionally, the Smart Stack will auto-launch during Live Activities or when music is being played.
While it remains uncertain if Apple will reconsider the retirement of the Siri Watch face, the introduction of the advanced Smart Stack provides users with a more personalized and efficient way to access information on their Apple Watch.
As Apple continues to expand the features and capabilities of their wearable device, users can expect to see even more advancements and improvements in the future. The Siri Watch face may have reached its final days, but the arrival of the smarter Smart Stack suggests an exciting evolution for the Apple Watch experience.
Long live the smarter Smart Stack, as we bid farewell to the Siri Watch face.
