### Apple to Integrate AI into Revamped Shortcuts App, Delayed Release Possible
Apple is developing a newly enhanced version of its Shortcuts app, incorporating Apple Intelligence, according to Bloomberg. The Shortcuts app allows users to automate various tasks, from messaging to smart home control, with personalized workflows. This app, which originated from Apple’s acquisition of Workflow in 2017, is set to become even more user-friendly with the addition of AI capabilities.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the upcoming update will enable users to create actions using models driven by Apple Intelligence. For instance, users might be able to form shortcuts through simple voice commands in natural language, simplifying the experience for those less familiar with automation tools. This integration aims to make the process more accessible and engaging for casual users.
While other tech giants like Microsoft already offer AI-driven tools such as Copilot+ for Windows, and third-party applications like TaskGPT provide similar functionality for macOS, Apple's suite currently lacks a comparable AI-driven tool. This is largely because Siri has not yet utilized large language models (LLMs), an area Apple is looking to address with the new Shortcuts update.
The revamped Shortcuts app, initially planned for this year, might face delays, potentially pushing its release to 2026. Consequently, it might not be featured in the upcoming macOS 26 or iOS/iPadOS 26, expected to launch in September.
As Apple gears up for WWDC 2025 next week, the anticipation builds around various announcements, including details about the enhancements coming to their operating systems and applications.
