In an exciting announcement, Apple has revealed that iPhone and iPad users can now wirelessly stream videos, music, and photos from their devices to their hotel room TVs via AirPlay at select IHG Hotels & Resorts properties. This feature is set to enhance the entertainment experience for guests, making their stay even more enjoyable.
Starting today, Apple's AirPlay is available at more than 60 IHG hotels in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This offering is currently accessible at various renowned IHG brands, including Holiday Inn, Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, Candlewood Suites, Staybridge Suites, Atwell Suites, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, and Avid locations.
To establish an AirPlay connection, users simply need to scan a unique QR code displayed on the hotel room TV. Once connected, guests can wirelessly stream content from their iPhone or iPad with ease. Additionally, their devices will automatically be connected to the hotel's Wi-Fi network, ensuring seamless connectivity. It is important to note that this feature requires iOS 17.3 or iPadOS 17.3 or later.
This integration with AirPlay goes beyond just streaming videos and music. Users can also enjoy gaming with Apple Arcade on the hotel room TVs, as well as participate in fitness activities with Apple Fitness+. It offers guests a wide range of entertainment options to cater to their preferences and interests.
Privacy and security are paramount in Apple's design ethos. After check-out, Apple assures that all connections between the user's device and the hotel room TV are erased. This prevents any future guests or hotel staff from accessing the previous guest's activity, ensuring a safe and private experience for all.
However, Apple has some catching up to do in this space. Google already provides a similar Chromecast streaming feature in many hotels that works with both iPhones and Android devices. Nonetheless, the addition of AirPlay support is a significant step forward for Apple users.
While this initial launch covers only IHG Hotels & Resorts properties, Apple has expressed its intention to expand this feature to additional hotels in the coming months. Users are eagerly anticipating the day when major hotel chains like Hilton, Marriott, and Choice follow suit.
The availability of AirPlay in hotel rooms opens up a realm of possibilities for guests, allowing them to seamlessly enjoy their personalized content on the big screen. Whether it's streaming favorite shows, playing games, or showcasing photos, this integration brings modern technology right into the heart of the hotel experience.
