Apple Original Film and A24 have joined forces once again, this time collaborating with Jennifer Lawrence on a thrilling murder mystery project called "The Wives." In a competitive deal, Apple has secured the rights to the package, which features Lawrence as both the star and producer of the film.
Joining Lawrence in the production team are Justine Ciarrocchi, her partner at the duo's Excellent Cadaver production banner, as well as Tony and Independent Spirit Award nominee Jeremy O. Harris and Josh Godfrey of bb2 banner. The script for the film, penned by Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley, is currently in development with no director attached.
While plot details of "The Wives" have been tightly under wraps, it has been hinted that the film draws inspiration from the Real Housewives franchise. The project will explore the soap operatic and extravagant lives of affluent women in various locations, including Orange County, Miami, and Atlanta.
Co-produced by Apple Studios and A24, this collaboration marks another successful partnership between the two companies. They had previously worked together on the 2022 drama "Causeway." Apple and A24 are quickly establishing themselves as reliable allies in the industry, with several projects currently in production and set to premiere.
Notably, the companies are currently working on "High and Low," a Spike Lee-directed drama starring Denzel Washington. They have also recently released "STEVE! (Martin)," a documentary by Academy Award winner Morgan Neville, and are ready to premiere the dark comedy series "Sunny," featuring Rashida Jones.
Michael Breslin, one of the screenwriters for "The Wives," has garnered recognition for his stage work. He recently directed "Invasive Species" by Maia Novi at the Vineyard Theater and co-created Pulitzer Prize finalist "Circle Jerk" and "This American Wife" alongside Patrick Foley as a creative director of Fake Friends at FourthWall Theatricals.
Foley, an Obie-winning actor and writer, was last seen in Thomas Bradshaw's "The Seagull" at The New Group in Woodstock, NY. Their collaboration on "Circle Jerk" led them to win an Obie Award in 2022 and become finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 2021.
With the combined talents of Jennifer Lawrence, Apple Studios, A24, and the creative team behind "The Wives," avid fans of mystery dramas can anticipate an enthralling cinematic experience. As more details unfold, audiences eagerly anticipate the announcement of a director and further plot developments for this highly anticipated project.
