In a surprising turn of events, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter, Shiloh, has filed a request in court to drop her father's last name from her hyphenated surname. The 18-year-old filed the request on her birthday, May 27, according to legal documents obtained by People.

This is not the first time one of the couple's children has expressed a desire to remove Pitt from their name. Shiloh's younger sister, Vivienne, listed herself as "Vivienne Jolie" in the playbill for the Broadway show "The Outsiders," which was produced by Angelina. Similarly, in November 2023, their daughter Zahara joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Spelman College and introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie.

However, Shiloh's case appears to be more serious. The teenager took matters into her own hands by hiring her own lawyer and paying for it herself, rendering Angelina unable to comment. "Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself, so Angie doesn't know and can't speak for it," a source revealed to ET.

In the legal paperwork, Shiloh has expressed her wish to go by the name "Shiloh Jolie." It is interesting to note that Angelina Jolie herself went through a similar process in the past. Born Angelina Jolie Voight, the actress petitioned the court to legally drop her famous father's surname in 2002, when she was 27 years old.

This latest development in Shiloh's life comes amidst the ongoing legal battles between her parents. Angelina filed for divorce from Brad in 2016 and requested sole physical custody of their six children. The former couple has been embroiled in a bitter custody dispute, with Angelina alleging that Brad was abusive to her and their children during a plane incident in 2016 and prior.

The custody wars and the name change request shed light on the continued turmoil within the Jolie-Pitt family. BuzzFeed has reached out to Angelina's representatives for comment on the matter, and we eagerly await any updates or responses.

As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains to be seen how the court will decide on Shiloh's request and its implications for the larger custody battle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
