### Red Sox Offseason: Weighing the Benefits of Adding Soto
The Boston Red Sox could potentially bolster their roster by acquiring slugger Juan Soto, but does the addition of another left-handed hitter pose a problem for the lineup's balance? Tyler O'Neill was a primary power source for Boston last season, leading the team with 31 home runs while they collectively managed 194, which placed them ninth overall, trailing the Yankees’ 237.
The addition of Soto is seen as a potential game-changer for manager Alex Cora’s batting lineup. However, questions have surfaced about whether having too many lefties could be a downside. Jarren Duran, one of the team’s standout players, doesn’t believe this will be an issue. “I don't think so," Duran told MLB Network. "It is baseball. But at the end of the day, we are athletes and we can adjust to the lefties if we need to. If you can hit, you can hit. But, you know, that's not my territory, that's the front office's territory to deal with."
Duran, who led the Red Sox in doubles (48), steals (34), hits (191), and runs (111), is part of a group of proficient left-handed hitters including Rafael Devers, Wilyer Abreu, Masataka Yoshida, and Triston Casas. This core lineup nearly drove Boston to a playoff berth but ultimately fell short, finishing the season with a balanced 81-81 record, a result attributed in part to numerous critical injuries.
As Soto’s potential meetings with the Yankees and Mets loom, the Red Sox front office faces a crucial decision. Will adding Soto’s powerful bat to an already lefty-heavy lineup strike the right chord for the upcoming season?
