**Gauff and Keys Set to Face Off in All-American Quarterfinal at 2025 French Open**
Monday brought mixed fortunes for American women at the 2025 French Open, with contrasting outcomes for top players Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Madison Keys. The latest matches have set the stage for an exciting quarterfinal clash between Gauff and Keys, while Pegula's journey came to an end against an unlikely opponent.
Coco Gauff continued her impressive run, advancing to the quarterfinals by defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova. Gauff, ranked No. 2, dominated the first set by blanking the Russian 6-0. Though Alexandrova attempted a comeback in the second set, Gauff held her ground to win 7-5. Remarkably, Gauff has not dropped a single set in her four matches so far. This will be her fifth time reaching the quarterfinals at the French Open, a tournament at which she's historically excelled, having been a finalist in 2022 and a semifinalist last year.
On the other hand, Madison Keys also demonstrated strong form by winning her fourth-round match against fellow American Hailey Baptiste. Keys secured a 6-3 victory in the first set and managed to fend off Baptiste's challenge in the second set, winning 7-5. This marks Keys' first return to the French Open quarterfinals since 2019. The No. 7-ranked player will now face Gauff, in what promises to be one of the most thrilling quarterfinal matches.
While Gauff and Keys kept American hopes alive, Jessica Pegula could not progress past her fourth-round match. Pegula started strong against Lois Boisson, taking the first set 6-3, but struggled thereafter. Boisson, who is ranked No. 361, mounted an impressive comeback, winning the second set 6-4 and clinching the deciding set by the same margin. This marks Boisson's highest-profile victory, while Pegula, the No. 3 seed, exits the tournament as the highest-seeded woman to fall so far.
The quarterfinals will also feature top-seeded players from various countries, including Aryna Sabalenka, Mirra Andreeva, Qinwen Zheng, Elina Svitolina, and Iga Swiatek.
The next round will undoubtedly be a focal point for fans, especially with the highly anticipated match between Gauff and Keys.
