A 31-year-old American man confessed to charges of murder and rape in connection with a brutal attack on two U.S. women at Germany's Neuschwanstein Castle. The man admitted to the crimes during a court appearance in Bavaria, Germany, concerning the June 14, 2023, assaults. The attack took place at the Marienbrucke Bridge, a popular spot near the 19th-century castle, where the man met the two students, Eva Liu and Kelsey Chang.
During the assault, Liu was raped and thrown down a steep ravine, resulting in her death. Chang was also thrown into Pollat Gorge but managed to survive the ordeal. The defendant was arrested near Marienbrücke shortly after the attack, which attracted the attention of hundreds of tourists in the area.
German police detailed evidence gathered from the man's cell phone, including videos and photos of the crime, as well as images of child pornography and violent sexual acts. The defendant's attorney acknowledged the seriousness of the crimes, describing them as "inconceivable offenses." The man listened without expression as authorities recounted the events leading up to the tragic incidents at the famous tourist landmark.
The defendant is now facing charges of murder and rape for his actions at Neuschwanstein Castle, one of Germany's most visited and photographed tourist attractions. Chang, the survivor, was injured and left clinging to a tree 165 feet down the ravine after attempting to defend her friend during the attack. Liu, tragically, lost her life as a result of the assault.
