Upon arriving at a delivery location, VAPR employs advanced technology to project a green "O" on packages due for delivery at that stop and a red "X" on packages meant for other stops. This feature, coupled with both audio and visual signals, ensures that drivers can swiftly and accurately identify the correct packages without the need to step into the cargo area or depend on a mobile device.

Bobby Garcia, a driver from Bloomfield Logistics testing the VAPR in North Boston, shared his experience, stating, "Before, it could take me anywhere between 2 and 5 minutes to empty a tote and organize packages for the next stops. Now, with VAPR, this whole step just takes me about a minute. It's made my life so much easier."

At the heart of VAPR is Amazon Robotics Identification (AR-ID), a form of computer vision that was initially used in Amazon’s fulfillment centers for tasks like inventory management. This sophisticated technology eliminates the need for manual barcode scanning by accurately identifying items in real time, even under various lighting conditions and different package characteristics. Integrated with Amazon’s delivery route navigation system, VAPR’s performance is enhanced by specially designed automotive light projectors and cameras, all working in conjunction with AWS technologies such as SageMaker and IoT Greengrass.

Not only does VAPR reduce the time and effort involved in retrieving packages, but it also enhances delivery accuracy, enabling drivers to provide a superior customer experience. Stephen Harry, owner of Bloomfield Logistics, confirmed, "VAPR always finds the right packages," highlighting its reliability and efficiency.

VAPR stands as a testament to Amazon's commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction in the package delivery sector.
