In a high-stakes bidding war, Amazon MGM Studios emerged victorious to secure the film package 'American Speed,' featuring Tom Holland and Austin Butler in leading roles. The production is helmed by Oscar-winning producer Charles Roven, known for his recent work on 'Oppenheimer.' Roven will produce the project through his Atlas Entertainment company, joined by RD Whittington and Douglas Banker, with Atlas' Ryan Sanak serving as executive producer.
This announcement caps off an already eventful week for Tom Holland. Alongside the 'American Speed' news, Holland's next venture in the Spider-Man series has been slated for a July 2026 release, with Destin Daniel Cretton onboard as director. Additionally, Holland is set to co-star with Matt Damon in an upcoming film by acclaimed director Christopher Nolan.
Charles Roven, besides his involvement with 'American Speed,' is also engaged in producing 'Mercy,' a sci-fi thriller starring Chris Pratt. This film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release by Amazon MGM Studios on August 15, 2025.
