Former bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming fight against Movsar Evloev at UFC 307 in Salt Lake City on October 5th. Sterling broke the news in a video posted on his YouTube channel, explaining that an injury sustained in training would prevent him from competing in the short turnaround time.

Although he did not disclose the specific details of the injury, sources have confirmed that Sterling suffered an elbow injury which does not require surgery. Despite receiving treatment, he was not responding well enough to risk participating in the October event. While it is expected that Sterling could make a return before the end of the year, it is certain that he will not be able to fight in UFC 307.

Sterling expressed his regret for not being able to face Evloev and apologized to both him and his team. The former champion had been eagerly anticipating the bout and is disappointed that circumstances are preventing him from delivering a performance against his opponent. However, he did extend a challenge to Evloev, proposing that the fight be rescheduled for a later date, possibly in December, to allow him enough time to fully recover.

As of now, the UFC has not announced a new opponent for Evloev at UFC 307. Sterling is aware that Evloev may choose to move on and seek another fight to continue his pursuit of a championship title. Sterling acknowledges that both fighters are aiming for the same goal, and the path to achieving it may involve facing each other.

The withdrawal of Sterling is undoubtedly a blow to the UFC 307 card, as his match against Evloev carried significant implications for his career and potential opportunities for a featherweight title shot. However, the event will still move forward with two title fights headlining the card: Alex Pereira defending his light heavyweight championship against Khalil Rountree Jr. in the main event, and Raquel Pennington putting her bantamweight belt on the line against former champion Julianna Pena.

In response to Sterling's announcement, Movsar Evloev expressed his disappointment but emphasized his dedication to compete on the scheduled date. He expressed his willingness to fight any opponent the UFC may find, as he has been training diligently for the past four months. Evloev's commitment to his preparation and desire to remain on the card showcase his determination to make an impact in his upcoming fight.

Fans and pundits alike will now wait to see how the UFC handles the situation and who they choose as a replacement opponent for Evloev. As for Sterling, the focus will be on his recovery and regaining the opportunity to showcase his skills in the Octagon in the near future.
