**Aleksander Barkov Wins Prestigious NHL Awards for 2025 Season**
SUNRISE, Fla. - The National Hockey League declared today that Florida Panthers’ captain Aleksander Barkov has clinched both the 2025 Frank J. Selke Trophy and the 2025 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. The Selke Trophy is awarded annually to the forward who excels the most in the defensive aspects of the game, while the King Clancy Memorial Trophy is given to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made significant humanitarian contributions in his community.
Barkov has achieved a historical milestone by becoming the first player in NHL history to win both the Selke and King Clancy Trophies in the same season. He joins the ranks of Patrice Bergeron, Ron Francis, and Dave Poulin as one of the few players to have won both awards at any point during their careers. This is Barkov's third Selke Trophy win, having previously secured it in the 2020-21 and 2023-24 seasons. He is also now a member of an elite group of players who have won the Selke Trophy at least three times, alongside Jere Lehtinen, Pavel Datsyuk, Ron Gainey, Guy Carbonneau, and Patrice Bergeron.
The 29-year-old Finnish star led the Panthers with 51 assists and 34 takeaways, while producing the second-most points on the team with a total of 71 in the 2024-25 season. His faceoff win percentage of 56.5% ranked ninth among players who took at least 1,000 draws this season, continuing a streak of dominance with a win percentage over 50% for the eighth consecutive year.
During five-on-five play, Barkov recorded a 59.3% shot attempts percentage, fourth among NHL forwards with at least 50 games played this season. He averaged 1:31 of shorthanded time on ice per game and 15:28 of even strength TOI per game. Additionally, Barkov delivered four shorthanded points (1 goal, 3 assists), just one shy of his career-high.
Barkov's recognition with the King Clancy Memorial Trophy marks the first time a Florida Panthers player has been honored with this award. He joins the ranks of Finnish-born players Pekka Rinne (2021) and Saku Koivu (2007) who have previously received the award. Barkov's significant contributions off the ice include partnering with Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital since 2019, where he donates $1,600 for every goal he scores and $800 for each assist. Through his #BarkovScores4JoeD campaign, he has donated over $420,000 to the hospital, aiding in resources, research opportunities, and support programs for patients and their families. Furthermore, he hosts patients, families, and hospital staff at Panthers home games by purchasing an annual suite at Amerant Bank Arena.
Each NHL team nominates a player for the King Clancy Trophy, with the winner chosen by a committee including NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and past recipients of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy and NHL Foundation Player Award.
