Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The National Weather Service has confirmed that at least 18 tornadoes developed during a powerful weather system known as a derecho, which swept through Iowa on Friday morning. The derecho, originating from central Nebraska and moving through northwest Illinois, caused widespread destruction in its path.

Out of the 18 tornadoes, 11 struck eastern Iowa, leaving a trail of minor damage in their wake. Among the affected areas were Solon, Wellman, Frytown, Riverside, and West Branch. The intensity of the tornadoes varied, ranging from an EF-0 tornado in Solon to EF-1 tornadoes in the surrounding regions.

Although the storms caused damage to some homes, buildings, and infrastructure, the impact was relatively limited. Fallen trees obstructed roads, while power outages affected hundreds of residents temporarily. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported related to the tornadoes.

The National Weather Service's Quad Cities office provided detailed information regarding 16 of the tornadoes on their Facebook page, keeping the public informed about this significant weather event.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious and keep an eye out for any further updates from the National Weather Service as they continue to assess the situation.
