Republic Records has achieved a groundbreaking milestone on the latest Billboard 200 chart, claiming eight out of the top ten spots. This marks the first time in the chart's history that a label has held such dominance simultaneously. The achievement underscores Republic Records' continued success and influence in the music industry.
The latest charts, which reflect the tracking week of Dec. 29, 2023-Jan. 4, 2024, revealed a significant shift in rankings following the Christmas holiday season. Seasonal albums have vacated the top 10, making way for Republic Records' impressive lineup. Notably, the label's stronghold extends to six of the top six positions.
Topping the chart is Taylor Swift's "1989 (Taylor's Version)," reaffirming her enduring popularity. Following closely at number two is Morgan Wallen's "One Thing at a Time," which has risen from the fifth position with nearly 64,000 units sold, representing a 6% increase. Drake's "For All the Dogs" secured the third spot, while Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday 2" slipped to fourth place with 57,000 units sold, down 13%.
Swift makes another appearance on the chart with her albums "Midnights" and "Lover" at fifth and sixth place, respectively, signaling her consistent chart presence. SZA's "SOS" climbs to number seven, further solidifying Republic Records' domination in the top tier.
The remaining three positions in the top ten were occupied by notable artists from various genres. Noah Kahan's "Stick Season" surged from the 18th spot to number eight, generating 42,000 equivalent album units, a notable 5% increase. Zach Bryan's self-titled former chart-topper catapulted from the 20th position to ninth place with 41,000 units sold, reflecting the artist's continued success. Taylor Swift reenters the chart with her album "Folklore," securing the tenth position with 36,000 units sold, despite a 3% decrease.
Republic Records' exceptional achievement on the Billboard 200 builds upon their previous success. The label previously held seven of the top ten spots on six separate occasions throughout 2023. This recent triumph marks an unprecedented milestone, with no label ever accomplishing eight out of ten positions simultaneously.
In addition to the dominance in the top ten, Republic Records clinched the entire top six spots on the chart, a feat they previously achieved on the December 9, 2023-dated list. Since the chart's inception in August 1963, no label had held the entire top six until Republic Records accomplished it.
