Former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star, Teddi Mellencamp, recently underwent a significant surgery to remove her skin cancer. The reality TV alum, 42, took to Instagram on Wednesday to update her followers on her condition and express her gratitude for their support.

Mellencamp revealed that she underwent a procedure called "wide excision melanoma," which involved the removal of a sizable area of her shoulder. To reconstruct the affected area, doctors utilized a flap of skin from lower down on her back. The process involved a "soft tissue defect reconstruction with adjacent tissue rearrangement."

Although she acknowledged the pain and discomfort that followed the surgery, Mellencamp emphasized that the procedure was worth it in order to eradicate the melanoma. She took the opportunity to urge her followers to prioritize their skin health and get regular check-ups.

Accompanying her update on Instagram were several photos, including an image of herself lying in a hospital bed, a pre-operation shot of her upper back, and a video taken immediately after the procedure. In the video, Mellencamp, with bandages and gauze visible, mumbled to the camera, expressing her gratitude for the doctors' work and hoping that they had successfully removed all of the cancer.

During her recovery, Mellencamp shared that she was awaiting discharge to a nursing facility. Offering some insight into her post-operative experience, she mentioned the tightness of her back skin and referred to herself as being on a "struggle bus."

Mellencamp also provided an update on her previous treatment with topical cream immunotherapy, revealing that it had not been effective in treating her melanomas. Following her surgery, she stated that regular monitoring would be crucial, with closer scrutiny every three months. Her hope lies in clear margins from the surgery.

Since announcing her stage 2 melanoma diagnosis in October 2022, Mellencamp has undergone multiple procedures to remove melanomas and lymph nodes. In January, she celebrated being declared cancer-free, only to discover new spots that required further evaluation. In September, she underwent another surgery, unable to recall if it was her twelfth or thirteenth encounter with melanoma.

Teddi Mellencamp's journey with skin cancer has been marked by resilience and a willingness to share her experiences with her fans. Her recent surgery represents another step in her battle against the disease, inspiring others to prioritize their own health and seek proper medical care.
