The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has issued a ruling regarding the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, granting gymnast Ana Maria Barbosu the bronze medal in the floor exercise. The decision follows a memo filed by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation and the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee. The announcement was made by FRG on their Facebook page on Saturday.

Barbosu's successful appeal means she now officially holds the bronze medal in the floor exercise, with Sabrina Maneca Voinea moving to fourth place. The CAS ruling comes on the heels of a challenge submitted by FRG and Sabrina Maneca Voinea, which was ultimately rejected.

In the floor final on August 5, Barbosu initially secured the bronze medal for a brief period until American gymnast Jordan Chiles lodged an appeal which led to an increase in her score. Consequently, Chiles clinched third place. The gold medal was claimed by Brazilian Rebeca Andrade with a score of 14.166, while American Simone Biles took silver with 14.133.

The CAS ruling solidifies Ana Maria Barbosu's third-place finish with a score of 13.700, relegating Sabrina Maneca Voinea to fourth place with the same score, and moving Jordan Chiles down to fifth with 13.666.

The decision by CAS has prompted discussions on social media, with varying opinions on the timing of challenges affecting results in elite sports competitions. Some have expressed surprise and concern over the intricacies of the ruling, emphasizing the importance of adhering to set protocols in sports events.
